Building the Forge: A 90s-inspired project with my brother

If you remember the 90s—the pixel art, the specific way those old games sounded, and the tension of making a choice that actually mattered—you know the vibe I am going for. I wanted to create a place that felt like those old stories but also gave people the tools to build their own.

I finally reached the point where I am ready to share what I have been working on. It is called Retro Adventure Forge, and it is basically a love letter to the era of gaming my brother and I grew up with.

If you remember the 90s—the pixel art, the specific way those old games sounded, and the tension of making a choice that actually mattered—you know the vibe I am going for. I wanted to create a place that felt like those old stories but also gave people the tools to build their own.

The No Code Goal

One of the main reasons I built this was because I think the barrier to making games is way too high. You should not need to be a developer just to tell a branching story.

With input from my brother, I have tried to make the Forge as simple as possible. It is a creative space where you can focus on the writing and the atmosphere without worrying about the underlying code.

Why now?

The site is technically in Public Beta, but it is fully usable. Honestly, we just wanted to get it into people's hands.

  • Play for free: You do not need an account or a login to try it out. There are two demo stories live on the site right now. You can just jump in and play.
  • Create for free: Right now, all the creation tools are free to use. I will likely add some premium features down the road, but for now, I just want to see what people can build with it.

A Passion Project

This has been a huge undertaking, and having my brother’s perspective throughout the process has been a big part of why it is finally ready. It is not a corporate platform. It is just something we wanted to see exist.

I am planning to keep adding to it with more features and more stories. I want to keep finding ways to make the experience feel like that classic 90s era we miss.

If you have a few minutes, go check it out, play a demo, and let me know what you think.
