Our trip has been cancelled, just after midnight of the day of our flights and notably less than 24 hours after the Crowdstrike outage caused huge disruptions to banks, airlines, hospitals, 911 emergency services and other industries.
Our yearly mission trip to Honduras to minister to the small villages and provide medical care has been cancelled. This is the only time that many of these poorest of the poor get to see a medical doctor in the rural villages.
We were scheduled to fly out at 7:00am, we had to meet to travel to the airport at 4:00am. I went to bed at 8:00pm the evening before so I could get up at 2:30, get a shower and finish my final pack of things I couldn’t pack the day before. When I woke up at 2:30, I found a text from our group leader that the trip had been “stood down” because the other half of our team’s flights had been cancelled. They couldn’t be rebooked until Wednesday, leaving at most 1 day out of our schedule for them to contribute. We also couldn’t go with only half a team.
This trip was the product of a year of planning, logistical coordination and scheduling of a score of individual people’s lives. The entire trip for this year has been completely cancelled and we won’t know the impact this can have on the people we were going to serve.
Update: It’s confirmed that it’s due to the Crowdstrike issue from yesterday.
